Aino Saarnio's book reflects the life of a 1948 immigrant family today. In the postwar years immigration from Finland was insignificant as compared to the early century. The approximately 1000 Finns that appeared in the US IN 1948-1949 made the move inspired by the desire to rid themselves of proximity with the Big Eastern neighbor. Many are veterans of war and members of families driven out of their East-Karelian homes in the Winter War.
