Italian Hall
Solving Michigan's Largest Mass Murder
An inquest was held to investigate the deaths of more than six dozen people at the Italian Hall on Christmas Eve, 1913, and a transcript was made of the testimony. The official copy of that transcript disappeared for decades, causing the event to be shrouded in mystery. A few copies surfaced, but those can only be viewed at the Calumet Village Hall or the Michigan Technological University Archives. Even those copies aren't that clear.
A clean copy of the coroner's inquest transcripts surfaced recently. A direct copy of this document is made available here for the first time so that students of history can examine it themselves.
With an introduction by Steve Lehto, author of the award-winning book, Death's Door: The Truth Behind Michigan's Largest Mass Murder.
