Back Cover: An account of an extended family's move from Finland to Michigan and then to a homestead in Minnesota at the turn of the last century. The book is a combination of family history, autobiography, and social history. It tells the tale of the Siiros and their relations and neighbors as they established roots in America, bringing with them distinct cultural influences from the "old country".

Alma Siiro Lundeen was the youngest of eight children in a family that homesteaded in the woods of Minnesotal at the turn of the last century. She was a teacher, artist, wife and mother. When she was in her seventies she went back to college to continue her studies in art and other subjects that interested her. At this time she began writing the history of her family from their emigration from Finland in the 1880s up to the time she was married in 1930. When she died in 1999, at the age of ninety- three, she and Wayne had been married sixty-nine years. She chose to use the original spelling of the last name as a pen name.
